What is Proactive Conservation?
Proactive Conservation is design and production decisions made before creating a product or system that prioritize the long term reduction of waste by designing the combination of fixed, durable, and consumable parts that create the most efficient utilization of materials and energy over the useful lifetime of the product or system.
Why is Proactive Conservation important?
We as humans are both the primary beneficiaries and stewards of natural resources. Our responsibility as stewards requires that we proactively ensure that natural resources are not wasted or overused. Craftsmanship can be a direct means of proactive conservation through its ability to limit material and energy waste, and in doing so, decrease the reliance on non-renewable resources.
“The love of the land, water, and wildlife inspires the creativity within, but also imparts the responsibility to be a steward dedicated to its preservation.”
– CCC Founder Luke Kolbie
Preservation is proactive. At CCC, we aren’t interested in just cleaning up the mess associated with the disposal of a product, we are interested in ensuring that our products never enter into the cycle of waste. Eliminating the source of waste is far more impactful than attempting to recycle the waste once it has been created. This harkens back to the early days of environmental protection in which the slogan “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” was introduced. Recycling is admirable, but it is the last and least effective measure of environmental protection.
The Conservation Through Craftsmanship Approach:
We at CCC are dedicated to a completely different approach that not only results in a drastic reduction in waste, but also yields the finest products in the world.
Conservation Through Craftsmanship: When a product or system is created with the best materials and craftsmanship, coupled with design that prioritizes functionality and serviceability, the effect is a proactive conservation of materials, labor, and energy that compounds with time.
